Placement Tests and Transfer Credits

Technology Foundations/Technical College Learning Support

All new students must complete the WIN Learning Academic Skills Courseware Placement Tests to assess their current skill levels in reading, math and data, unless they are otherwise exempt or the tests are not required by the Technology Foundations instructor.

The results of these placement tests will determine whether students need to enroll in a Technology Foundations class to strengthen their skills in math, data and/or reading. Once a student has mastered the required competencies at the level set by their core instructor, as outlined by the Technology Foundations instructor, they will complete the course. Technology Foundations must be taken and completed during the student’s first trimester.

Credit for Previous Training/Work Experience

Training completed in high school or at technical institutes, colleges or through other experiences such as business, industry or military service may be evaluated for credit toward program completion requirements, where applicable.

To request credit for previous training, students may be asked to provide one or more of the following:

  • Testing: The program instructor may ask the student to demonstrate proficiency through oral or written exams and/or skill performance.
  • Transcripts: The program instructor will review the student’s official transcripts and may grant credit for previous coursework, as appropriate.

Prior Credit Evaluation Process

When a student requests credit for prior education, training or experience, instructors may review relevant documentation and other sources to determine whether the student qualifies to receive credit toward a course in their program of study.

HESI Assessment for Allied Health

The HESI Assessment is used as a placement test for students who are wishing to enroll in any Allied Health course.  Students must meet or exceed the scores required per program in order to apply to Allied Health courses.

HESI is a new subject for the Tennessee College of Applied Technology – Murfreesboro, and to help prepare students as well as our employees, we have written a guide to help assist in the process before the exam, during the exam, and what happens after the exam.
